Lecturers Threaten Strike over Poly Crisis From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin
Tertiary institutions in Kwara State rose from an emergency meeting held at the College of Education, Oro, with a plea to State Governor, Bukola Saraki, to intervene in the rift at the state polytechnic to avert an imminent labour crisis.
In a communique at the end of the meeting signed by Comrades Bayo Aina and Ahmed Ambali, acting chairman and secretary, the institutions under the umbrella of Committees of Union of Teaching Institutions (CUTI) expressed misgivings at the on-going crisis at the polytechnic and wanted an end in favour of ASUP.
It expressed disappointment at the suspension of the ASUP local chairman, Comrade Ola Adefila and described his plight as unfortunate and a clear case of witch hunting.
The union gave a two weeks ultimatum to the polytechnic authorities to reinstate Adefila and other unjustly dismissed/suspended staff.
"Failure to meet this ultimatum may lead to a situation where staff members of the five tertiary institutions in the state would embark on industrial action by July16," the Union threatened.
In an earlier meeting, CUTI said it felt uncomfortable "that lies are being peddled and unfounded rumours circulated which may not augur well for industrial harmony".
It called on the state government to call the
council and management of the Polytechnic to
